US, Singapore Seek to Resolve Supply Chain Disruptions Threatening Defense Capabilities

The Department of Defense has signed an agreement with Singapore to address supply chain challenges better.

Under the security of supply arrangement, the DOD and the Singapore Ministry of Defense will collaborate to meet their critical defense needs mutually.

The bilateral deal will also enable the agencies to resolve disruptions threatening defense capabilities and promote supply chain resiliency, DOD said.

The newly signed SOSA requires the United States and Singapore to prioritize reciprocal support for goods and services that promote national defense.

It also establishes a streamlined mechanism for both countries to resolve supply chain issues affecting national security requirements quickly.

According to DOD, the agreement will bolster interoperability between the signatories and provide them with a resilient defense ecosystem.

William LaPlante, the agency’s undersecretary for acquisition and sustainment, called the SOSA an important step that “further strengthens the relationship between Singapore and the United States.”

The arrangement allows the two nations to meet their supply chain challenges better and strengthen their respective defense industrial bases, LaPlante noted.

The DOD said Singapore is the United States’ 17th SOSA partner.
