The U.S. Department of State has approved a potential $350 million sale of six engines for MH-60R multi-mission helicopters, the engines’ maintenance and related items to South Korea. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered certification of the proposed sale to Congress on Friday.

The DSCA said the military equipment sale will enhance the Korean MH-60R helicopters’ surface and submarine combat missions, as well as search and rescue activities.

Lynn, Massachusetts-based General Electric will be the principal contractor. In addition to the engines, the other items that GE will supply include spare and repair components, ferry services, technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment.

Related logistics and program support are also included in the contract. Eight U.S. government personnel and four GE representatives will visit South Korea to assist in the contract’s service deliveries.

South Korea acquired the MH-60R helicopters under a $447.2 million U.S. Navy contract awarded to Lockheed Martin in April 2021.
