Rheinmetall MAN Secures Contract to Provide HX Vehicles for Swedish Armed Forces’ Archer Artillery System

Germany’s Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles will provide the Swedish Armed Forces with highly mobile, all-terrain military vehicles.

The Rheinmetall and MAN Truck and Bus joint venture secured a $79.6 million contract from BAE Systems Bofors for 48 units of the HX cab chassis with protected cabins.

Deliveries will begin in the third quarter of 2024.

The HX series of vehicles can carry cargo weighing up to 120 tons. For the Forsvarsmakten, the 8×8 military trucks will deliver Archer wheeled artillery systems to the battlefield.

According to Rheinmetall, HX is especially suited for the 155 mm howitzer weapon system because it can withstand the pressure wave generated by firing artillery.

BAE Systems Bofors will install the self-propelled artillery system for the armed forces. RMMV will also provide additional support and maintenance services as part of the effort.

In February, the British Army ordered RMMV’s HX logistics vehicles under a contract valued at $354 million.
