The United Arab Emirates has awarded Saab a $190 million contract to provide in-service support for the country’s GlobalEye Airborne Early Warning and Control solutions.

Under the three-year agreement, the Swedish company will support the UAE Ministry of Defence’s maintenance, logistics and training requirements for its growing GlobalEye AEW&C fleet.

Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of business area surveillance at Saab, said the new deal will ensure that UAE’s GlobalEye platforms are always mission-ready.

The partnership will deliver long-term local support and bolter existing collaboration with the UAE Air Force and Air Defence, he added.

Based on Bombardier’s Global 6000 aircraft, the GlobalEye surveillance plane features active and passive sensors for long-range detection and identification of objects across air, sea, and land domains.

The AEW&C solution is designed to deliver real-time information to military units to enhance their situational awareness and enable the early detection of potential threats.

According to Airforce Technology, the UAE currently has a fleet of three GlobalEye aircraft, having received the units in 2020 and 2021.

The country ordered two more of the surveillance aircraft, which Saab is expected to deliver in late 2024.
