Leonardo has partnered with Singapore to explore further deployment of the Italian contractor’s naval gun and underwater technologies in the island nation.
Leonardo’s website lists the76SR guns and Hitrole remote weapon stations among the company’s naval systems in the Singapore Navy service. It notes that the company has been partnering with the Singapore Armed Forces and agencies within the Ministry of Defense for more than 30 years.
Leonardo said it formalized the tie-up by signing a memorandum of understanding with the Defence Science and Technology Agency on the sidelines of the Singapore Airshow for Naval Innovation on Feb. 20.
Marco De Fazio, Electronics Division managing director at Leonardo, acknowledged the DSTA partnership’s importance in spreading knowledge about the company’s systems and exploring their future growth prospects.
The collaboration will focus on technology improvement, talent development and enhanced supportability of Leonardo systems within Singapore’s military services. DSTA will use the partnership to build the local workforce through internship arrangements and technical courses in Leonardo’s expertise areas.
