The United States and Finland have agreed to exchange cybersecurity information to strengthen both nations’ resilience against current and emerging threats.

On March 13, representatives from the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Finnish Ministry of Finance signed a cybersecurity cooperation memorandum of understanding.

“This partnership will help Treasury protect the financial sector from emerging threats while reinforcing our ability to coordinate incident response with our allies abroad,” said Todd Conklin, deputy assistant secretary for cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection at the Treasury.

“It is important for us to be able to prepare for potential incidents in advance in cooperation with authorities from different countries,” according to Leena Mörttinen, permanent undersecretary of the Finnish Ministry of Finance.

The MoU will see the nations exchange data on cybersecurity threats, incidents and best practices. The document also encourages government officials to visit partner agencies to conduct cyber exercises and swap ideas.

The U.S. has several cyber-related agreements with partners and allies across the world.

In October 2023, the Treasury Department met with officials from the United Arab Emirates to protect the integrity of the nations’ financial sectors from increased Iranian cyberattacks.
